La construcción de un túnel que unirá Dinamarca y Alemania está a punto de cambiar para siempre el paisaje de la isla danesa de Lolland. Dara es una etnóloga que llega a la zona para documentar las viviendas que van a ser demolidas y las historias de los habitantes que se ven obligados a dejar sus casas. Pero no son ellos los únicos desplazados en nombre del progreso: los obreros polacos que trabajan en la obra también lo han dejado todo para garantizar la subsistencia de sus familias.
El segundo largometraje de Anna Sofie Hartmann es una ficción construida sobre las bases de una transformación real que le sirve para reflexionar sobre el sentimiento de pertenencia a un lugar, y lo evanescente de nuestro impacto en los que nos siguen. Desde la racionalidad consustancial a una investigación etnográfica, el film reivindica con amor y admiración la riqueza de las historias de cada una de las personas con las que nos cruzamos, a la vez que observa cómo el espacio que habitamos influye en la construcción de nuestros recuerdos. La cuidada puesta en escena descarta todo lo anodino para poner el foco en lo esencial, la dimensión más íntima de sus personajes, con una profunda sensibilidad. Frente a la idea de un presente que avanza inexorable, sin volver la vista atrás, la cineasta gira la cámara y la detiene para capturar todo ese mundo justo antes de que se desvanezca.
The construction of a tunnel between Denmark and Germany is about to change the landscape of the Danish island of Lolland forever. Dara is an ethnologist who arrives in the area to document the housing that will soon be demolished and the stories of the inhabitants forced to leave their homes. But they’re not the only ones to be displaced in the name of progress: the Polish workers building the tunnel have also left everything behind to support their families.
Anna Sofie Hartmann’s second feature is a work of fiction based on real transformations that helps us reflect on the feeling of belonging to a place and how fleeting our impact is on those that come after us. From consubstantial rationality to an ethnographic piece of research, the film vindicates, with love and admiration, the richness of each individual story we come across, at the same time as it studies how the space we inhabit influences the construction of our memories. The meticulous mise-en-scènedismisses any trivialness to focus on the essential—the most intimate side of its characters—with great sensitivity. Working against the idea of time soaring forward straight as an arrow, never taking a moment to look back, the filmmaker turns the camera around to capture that world just before it disappears.

Pasó ocho meses en el European Film College de Aarhus. Después se trasladó a Berlín, donde estudió dirección en la Academia Alemana de Cine y Televisión (DFFB). Limbo , su ópera prima, se estrenó en el Festival de San Sebastián de 2014, participó en numerosos festivales y fue nominada a los Premios del Cine Europeo en la categoría de Descubrimiento Europeo. Giraffe es su segundo largometraje.
She studied at the European Film College in Aarhus for eight months. She then moved to Berlin, where she studied directing at the DFFB. Her first feature, Limbo , premiered at the San Sebastian Festival in 2014, was part of numerous festivals, and was nominated for the European Film Academy’s Discovery Award. Giraffe is her second feature.
