En el año 2000, Lucía viajó con sus abuelos, Pepe y Heber, a conocer París y Madrid, de donde Pepe tuvo que exiliarse a los 6 años huyendo de la Guerra Civil Española. Lucía registró el viaje con ojo adolescente en su cámara VHS. Luego del fallecimiento de su abuelo, Lucía se reencuentra con el material grabado y comienza otro viaje: rearmar esa historia familiar. Un camino que no es lineal, con huecos y hallazgos, y donde lo extraordinario y lo común se entremezclan dejando ver que la identidad es un cúmulo de piezas que intentamos ordenar.
El primer largometraje de Lucía S. Ruiz forma parte de esa nueva categoría de relatos cinematográficos cuya atención se concentra en el árbol genealógico familiar, ese tipo de películas que, a través de la reconstrucción de historias particulares, familiares, van conformando un mosaico documental imprescindible para la conservación de la memoria histórica. Estéticamente austera, profunda y emotiva, Esa película que llevo conmigo va de lo biográfico a lo ensayístico, del homenaje personal a la experiencia colectiva de muchas de aquellas personas que llegaron a la Argentina a mediados del siglo pasado huyendo de la miseria. Es interesante lo que se cuenta y también cómo se cuenta, con cariño, respeto y mucha honestidad. Queda claro que la directora llevó varios años esta película consigo, tantos como para hacerla aflorar con conmovedora sensibilidad.
In 2000, Lucía traveled with her grandparents, Pepe and Heber, to see Paris and Madrid for the first time. Pepe was six years old when he had to be exiled from these cities during the Spanish Civil War. Lucía recorded the trip through her teenage eyes on her VHS camera. After her grandfather passed away, Lucía stumbled upon the recorded material and began another journey: putting that family history back together. The road is not linear, it’s filled with gaps and discoveries, and the extraordinary and the ordinary intertwine along the way, revealing that identity is just a collection of pieces we do our best to fit together.
Lucía S. Ruiz’s first feature is part of that new category of cinematic storytelling whose attention focuses on the family tree. It’s a type of film that, through the reconstruction of personal family stories, builds an essential documentary mosaic that aims to preserve historical memory. Aesthetically bare, deep and emotional, Esa película que llevo conmigo goes from biography to essay, from a personal homage to the collective experience of those who arrived in Argentina in the mid-20th century running away from misery. Both what is told and how it’s told, with care, respect and complete honesty, is interesting to see. It’s clear the director carried this film with her for several years, as many as it took to have it emerge with touching sensitivity.

Egresó en 2009 de la Escuela Nacional de Experimentación y Realización Cinematográfica (ENERC) como directora de montaje. Desde ese momento ha trabajado como montajista, asistente de montaje y editora online en cine, TV y series web tanto en ficción como en documental. Esa película que llevo conmigo es su ópera prima como realizadora y guionista.
